On November 26, 2001, the Naval Submarine Research Laboratory issued a 39-page report updating and not refuting, concerns about health risks for women and developing embryos on submarines:

The NSRL report, produced by the Navy independent of the definitive SAIC report titled Submarine Assignment Policy Assessment, should have resulted in a more serious approach to this issue than has been shown by Navy officials in 2010.
