CMR's TWELFTH ANNUAL CELEBRATION - SCHEDULE

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

THE CENTER FOR MILITARY READINESS

1. CMR Issues Briefing: First Session -- 3:30 PM – 4:35 PM

National Guard Association of the United States Building, Hall of the States One Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C.

Panel Discussion: “The Rule of Law vs. Policy Regulations: Gays in the Military”

Campbell University Law Professor William Woodruff– Prof. Woodruff is a retired Army colonel, Judge Advocate General, and the author of an authoritative Law Journal article on the legal and legislative history of the 1993 law banning homosexuals from the military. Prof. Woodruff will explain for the record why Congress rejected then-President Clinton’s convoluted proposal called “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Instead, Congress codified existing Defense Department regulations, stating that homosexuality is incompatible with military service.

Lt. Col. Bob Maginnis USA (Ret.)– A West Point graduate and veteran of the infantry, Col. Maginnis was a member of the Army’s study group examining the ban on gays in the military in 1993. As a Fox News contributor and frequent writer on military issues, Col. Maginnis has visited with the troops several times in Iraq and other hot spots in the war. He will discuss the likely social and disciplinary impact of repealing the 1993 law banning homosexual conduct in today’s military.

Elaine Donnelly– Presenting new information in her recent article published by the Duke University Journal of Gender Law & Policy, Mrs. Donnelly will analyze and refute arguments being made during the ongoing public relations campaign to repeal what CMR has named the “Military Personnel Eligibility Act of 1993.”

Note: Attendees will receive a copy of Mrs. Donnelly’s article for the Duke University Journal of Gender Law & Policy, titled “Constructing the Co-Ed Military.”

2. CMR Issues Briefing: Second Session – 4:40 PM to 5:45 PM

National Guard Association of the United States Building, Hall of the States One Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C.

Panel Discussion: “Military and Cultural Consequences of Co-Ed Land Combat”

Kathleen Parker – Writing as a popular syndicated columnist, Ms. Parker has frequently defended military men embattled by the forces of political correctness. She will discuss the military section of her upcoming book, Save the Males: Why Men Matter and Why Women Should Care.

Wayne State University Professor Kingsley Browne, the author of several books on gender roles in the workplace, will discuss his fascinating and timely new book. Co-Ed Combat, examines complex gender relations in the military, and explains the unique bonding that occurs in all-male groups trained for violence in combat.

Elaine Donnelly – will discuss the recently released “Rubber Stamp Report RAND Report” on Women in Combat, which ignores most of the historic and legal background on the subject analyzed in her article for the Duke University Journal of Gender Law & Policy, titled “Constructing the Co-Ed Military.”
