More Defense Department Dissembling on LGBT D-Day
In response to a news conference conducted today at the Pentagon by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen, Elaine Donnelly, President, Center for Military Readiness, issued the following statement:
"In a performance today that can only be described as unfocused, evasive, and almost sheepish, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen continued to deny or ignore tough questions that Congress has asked about the consequences of LGBT law and related policies in the military.
"Both the single-page memo and "Quick-Reference Guide" that the Defense Department released today are laughably simplistic and an affront to Congress. They do not constitute detailed regulations, as required by the repeal law, which should have been produced for public review and congressional oversight many months ago.
